There is something about still photography that captures our imagination. I often wonder why it is that we find a two dimensional image, an unimaginably thin slice of the universe, so mesmerizing. Why is it that sometimes a picture captures what our naked eye misses. Perhaps it is the quality of the picture, the talent of the photographer or the alteration of the picture’s attributes such as color, depth of field and color saturation. I think the real reason why we find ourselves captivated by a beautiful picture is that a picture focuses our attention on a tiny window of our experience, that if taken in its entirety could overwhelm our senses leading us to miss seeing all the beauty within that experience. A beautiful picture tells a story or it gently reminds us there is so much to look at and there are so many different ways of looking at the world around us. I love photography because it helps me see beautiy in the ordinary.
